I will never get a book from here again. The book we received is highlighted almost every single word and there are notes like crazy on every section of every page. It is SO distracting and hardly usable. They told me they'd send another book and never did. Then when questioned took back their word. Rip Off! Tip for consumers:Don't use them! They ship books that are in horrible condition and promise they will remedy it and then don't. The book we received was barely usable. Products used:Bought a book that was a piece of trash. I ordered a book and it got cancelled. No biggie. I got the refund two days later, however it was taken back out of my account the same day. I am so frustrated talking to customer service who keeps giving me a new person every single time and don't understand what I'm talking about. I just want my dam money back! Tip for consumers:Skip the hassle and don't shop here. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
Poor customer service, poor punctuality, and the worst at communicating with customers. Their website got hacked, customer payment was compromised site wide, and they didnt reach out to anyone about their payments and card information being leaked until months after it happened, even though they were aware of the situation. They threatened to send me to collections 6 whole months after they claimed my book was overdue, just because the post office failed to deliver (which they tend to do) the textbook back to their warehouse.
Ordered a book at the end of August, book shipped 5 days later and book was marked delivered a week later. So that is the time span you're looking at for free shipping. The textbook cost no more that $21 and it came in great condition. BUT The post office didn't deliver my package so that was the only drawback. I contacted the site, they were very responsive and even called me to offer advice and to send another book. I did receive the book for a great price.
Rented a used book from them for my daughter. It was due 3 days ago. I did forget to mail it back which is my fault however they charged me 5 times the amount a used book costs and almost double a new book. States they will charge the difference of the rental and cost of item. Used book costs $31.40, rental costs $20.04. They charged my back account $179.14. Disgusting way to do business. Another thing when I place the order I never received any confirmation had to ask them the status of my order and was given a tracking number that day I don't think they would've sent it had I not reached out. They do not send you any emails at all, no order confirmation, no shipping details, no return reminder - nothing …. It's the way they do business to make themselves richer. They are thieves. Will be going to my bank first thing Monday morning and will take other reviews as well to show them they are crooks.
I am a college student, and was ordering a book for my ASL class. Found a good price and ordered one through them, and even paid extra for faster shipping because I had a quiz the first week of class I needed the book for. Ordered and got the conformation email on Sunday, but never received an email saying it had been shipped, so I logged into their website that Thursday, just to see my order had been cancelled! I understand things happen, but could they not send an email or anything to notify me of this? I wasted 4 days waiting for this book that I need asap! I called customer service to see why this occurred and ensure that I get my refund, and she told me this happened because they were out of stock... my question is why make it available to purchase in the first place? If they have no stock don't allow customers to order and pay! Terrible communication and customer service. Currently waiting for me refund.
If you need a textbook, you should order ANOTHER company. YOU cannot start to study with your class. I ordered standard shipping, I don't receive my book for over 2weeks, then they said my fault because I ordered standard shipping. "This is Davanna with Campus Book Rentals. I am sorry that the book did not arrive on the estimated delivery date. But like I said we are within our shipping time frame." Any support and any effort cannot see from them. I placed an order and even paid for fast shipping. Hadn't received it so I went on my account to check the shipping and turns out it had been cancelled. I was never alerted about this so I reached out to the customer service chat where I got the most unhelpful person ever. They said they cancelled because the shipping and billing addresses were different. Really? No website has ever given me a problem with that before. The chat "expert" also ignored any questions as to why they would treat customers this way to the point I thought it was a robot responding. Avoid this place at all costs.
I ordered a Human Resources textbook from this site, as it is required for my college course. I even paid for fast shipping, and it still hasn't shown up yet. This textbook was going for about $80-$90 on the college bookstore website, this site only offered it for about $53. I'm going to find a way to cancel this order, get a refund, and order from somewhere else. I desperately need this textbook ASAP, as I have homework assignments due soon that require me to read it. You're better off paying more money when buying your books directly from the school's book store, or at least getting a pdf download of it.
I rented a book from them. I had to extend the due date once. Then I forgot when it was due. They don't remind you or let you know due date is coming up. Instead they immediately charge you. Don't get me wrong. I messed up. I was over the time but they set it up so that you fail. That's the business model. They would rather charge you. Getting the book back is not what they want. That's why they're cheaper. They'll make it up on the back end. Stay away from this company. Loan sharks are nicer
I ordered a textbook two weeks ago. Called today to ask why it hasn't arrived. The shipping and billing didn't match so they cancelled it. IM IN COLLEGE. I DONT LIVE WHERE MY BILLING IS CURRENTLY. They told me to replace the order. I told them I can't wait 14 more days, they told me to PAY THE EXTRA 15 DOLLARS for 2 day shipping. I chose them because I didn't want to spend so much. Absolute $#*!.
Bought a textbook that said good condition and was barely even usable it was falling apart so bad. Just don't buy books from them, period.
I was looking to buy a new book but because of all the negative reviews, I decided to ask customer support to confirm it was in stock before ordering. Apparently they are unable to confirm stock until you have ordered, fortunately they "update their website with availability hourly." I have since ordered... it is not in stock, so now I have to wait for a week to get my money back (hopefully). What is the point in not knowing your own available stock, is it some bizarre banking scheme? (It is a $300 niche art book, there is no chance someone else ordered one while I was checking out)
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I returned a book to US post office 03.02.2020. I used the pre-printed label provided by CampusBookRentals, followed the instructions, bought insurance for mayhem. As of 03/31/2020 the book has not been received by CampusBookRentals. I've sent the tracking number showing the book was dropped off at the US Post Office on 03.02.2020. CampusBookRentals email responses- "You are responsible for the book. Because you have insurance you will only be responsible for 25% of the books price." I've demanded to have my situation review by a supervisor, they have not. Today is 03/31/2020. ***Use a book rental site that uses UPS, books returned within 5 business days**
I haven't had a problem renting from them, but this time I wanted to buy my rental. What they wanted to charge me to buy the book, when added to my rental fee, meant that I would have bought the book from them for TWICE the cost I could have bought it from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and directly from the publisher. I CHECKED! Also, you can buy the book used from them for $21.95. The agent on Live Chat was kind of rude when I pointed out that charging students (or anyone) twice the fair market value for something is tacking advantage of them. She wrote, "We don't force anyone to rent or purchase from us. You have the free will to spend your money where you want." (I have the screenshots to prove it.) She did not respond when I wrote that it's not unreasonable to expect fair business practices. I am filing a Better Business Bureau claim. Be safe and use a different company. They just want your money and will charge you as much as they can! Tip for consumers:The prices are higher than other sites and until I tried to buy a book that I had rented I didn't have any problems. However, that bad experience has turned me off to this vender and I won't use them again. Products used:Rented a book for a class. It was in good condition. Service Value Shipping Returns Quality
Ordered a Biology book for my grandson for college. It came sooner than expected and in pristine condition and it was reasonably priced. So happy to have found Campus Book Rentals! I will definitely be ordering again.
Tried to buy a textbook. After entering all my information, there was small red text that showed up at the bottom of the Payment section (right under where your phone number goes) that said " HOLD-CALL---retain card " and a pop-up notification that said to make sure my card info was correct. I double, triple, quadruple checked to make sure all my card info was right, and it was. I had enough money in the account. I called my mom and asked her if I could Venmo her and try her card (figured maybe mine just wasn't working right) and the same " HOLD-CALL---retain card " thing popped up. I didn't know what it meant at the time, but I now know it means the cards were "lost/stolen/flagged" (Which they weren't; I had just purchased a textbook on Amazon not even an hour earlier) Only thing is, she gets text notifications from her bank every time a charge is made, and she instantly got one. I was worried that I had just fallen for a scam, and I still am. My mom told me to check my bank account and TECHNICALLY no charges were made, but there were several transactions showing up for $0.00, for all the times I tried re-entering my information and purchasing it again. I used the Live Chat option for help. I'll copy and paste the messages here. Me: it says there's an issue with the card, so I tried another card, and it charged it but the order still didn't go through Her: Ok, I have located your account and both cards are coming back declined with message - Transaction failed. Transaction response Code - 04. Transaction response description - HOLD-CALL—retain card. You will need to contact your bank and let them know you are trying to place an order for textbooks and give them the description Me: But it charged the second card? Her: It did not go through that same message - Transaction failed. Transaction response Code - 04. Transaction response description - HOLD-CALL—retain card. Is what it is saying (Now is a good time to mention the text my mom got from the bank explicitly stated "A charge of [$$] at CAMPUSBOOKRENTALS COM on [exact date/time] has been approved.") (*charged* *approved*) Me: what does "HOLD-CALL---retain card" mean? Her: you would have to ask your bank that sorry (I told her it was definitely charged, and wrote out what the bank notification said) Her: that is a pending hold, it did not fully go through, when you contact your bank they will let you know that Me: So why is it pending if the order didn't go through? Her: It is a hold that will clear (I asked her to cancel the pending payment, followed by several minutes of no response) Me: It says it was charged and approved, the amount has been taken out of the account. Could I either get a refund or my book? She finally responds, and says she cancelled it. I know refunds and stuff usually take time to process, so we'll have to wait and see how that goes, but I'm worried that all of those blank transactions from my account are considered pending and they'll try to charge me a bunch of times. I was hoping to save a bit of money through their site, but it's honestly not even worth it. I'm about to just buy it from my campus bookstore. Sorry for the super long review. It's just frustrating.
Ordered my book almost three weeks ago. Still haven't received it. I would avoid this company if i were you.
I received the textbook fast and in great condition, not to mention it was cheap. However upon returning the book, I was told they hadn't received it and they automatically took over $100 out of my account. I ended up tracking the book, finding out that it was delivered and sent them all of the info. They still refused to give me a refund even though I had all the proof that it was shipped and returned. The customer service is terrible and they do little to help you. All they try to do is scam you out of money.
Ordered 16 books for my students. They immediately charged me for 16. Six days later they canceled 15 of them, shipped 1, and only gave me refunds for 12. The same day as the refunds I had several fraudulent charges on my credit card, which had never happened before. One star is far too many.
"We wanted to thank you for your order of XXXX. Please know it's with our sincerest apologies we are letting you know this book has been cancelled. It happened within 12 hours after the order was confirmed. This is the most insincere apology I have seen. These guys did not even bother to tell you why the order needs to be cancelled. Sucks.
I ordered three books 2 from this site and one from another. The book from the other side - everything flew seamlessly. I paid, received confirmation email, tracking updates etc, a quick delivery. Then this company. First it took longer than average to get my order then the other order never arrived. Even though they did send an email (that is the only accountability I will take - the email went to my spam) BUT when I would look at my order status on THEIR site it still showed as them having received my order etc with no indication on their site that it was "unilaterally cancelled". Turns out it was cancelled because it was not in stock. OKAAYYYY why post a book and take my money if you do not have it in stock? Based on the prior reviews, seems this is standard practice for them - they list a book as being available and then you rely on that notion and then they will cancel your order. Clearly, they must run on some archaic system where it does not get updated in real time etc. So yes you do save money but you make up for it in aggravation. I say proceed with caution.
After ordering my first book, I came across this site and got nervous. Happy to report that my book arrived within a few days and was exactly what I ordered. Contrast that with the rental I got from Amazon, wrong edition and much worse condition, the one I got from CBR was correct and in decent condition, although it's clear it is a well used book. I don't know if they have improved their process since some of these other reviews, but I felt they could stand more of a balance in their reviews here. So far my experience is positive. If I have issues upon time to return, I'll come back and update this...
I wanted to save some money renting from them instead of Chegg.com. Not worth it. To begin, they didn't send me any type of email confirming that my book was shipped or a tracking number. Then, not knowing where my book was, I called them on Feb 1st to know where my book was, they told me it was supposed to arrive on Feb 4th. On Feb 5th I called them again to know where the heck my book was, and then they told me book was delivered, on the post office, Feb 1st. Amateurs, never going to do business with them again.
The worst book rental company i have ever come across, they are liars and very unreliable. I had to pay for a book they held hostage. They were never concerned about me. GOD will judge them
