    Usually shop at WM when visiting US. Love browsing and picking up the unique items. Had a disheartening experience in the WM in Shreveport. After browsing for over an hour i left my cart for about 5 mins to look at a piece of antique furnitiure i wanted to buy. During that time one of the associates took my cart emptied and return it. Never had that experience in that in the 15 years or so i have been shopping at WM. Perhaps it because its thanksgiving? Rating for today is 2 Date of experience: November 27, 2024
    Well, it's safe to say I will not be shopping here anymore. I found some chairs that I liked online but like to look at things in person before I buy them. These particular chairs were not available in store so I had to purchase them based on the pictures alone online. Of course there were shipping costs. It did say online any order over $50, shipping would be free. The two chairs I picked out were over $600. But wouldn't you know it, if your item is too big there is a large item shipping cost and free shipping cannot be applied to the order. This is a furniture store, everything is going to be large items. So, I was charged over $200 in shipping fees. I did not think anything of it because the chairs looked like good quality and just what I was looking for... And there was a 60-day return policy. And for goodness sakes, this is world market, they'll stand by their furniture, especially when I can't see it in person. After receiving the chairs and looking at them, they were not what I was expecting judging from what they look like in the pictures online I decided to return them. The only way we were going to be able to return them was to drive them to the store, which was over an hour away from my house. The store in Modesto was very helpful and took them back without a hitch. The staff that helped me out gave me a confirmation number for my money that was supposed to be put back in my account. Two days later we received money from world market. It was $220 less than what we paid for the chairs. After writing an email to them asking for a full refund and them saying basically, "no, we're not going to do that." I called them and talked to them on the phone. I got the same results. They said they would not be refunding the $220. Which was all the shipping cost. So for a chair, I could not go see in a store and had to order. Which I had every intention of keeping. It was what I was looking for, I am being charged $220 to just look at it. The chairs were not damaged and were returned to them, Yet they are refusing to give me all of my money back. I guess this is the kind of tactics you pull. If you don't stand behind your furniture. They must know a lot of people are going to return their furniture and are just trying to get their money anyway they can.     I applied for a World Market credit card because I was planning on purchasing large ticket items and the incentive they were offering at time of application was 20% off my first order. The good news-when I applied they emailed me the 20% off code to use. When I finally received my credit card in the mail the incentive expired. I called to see if World Market would make good on it and they refused. I won't be purchasing from World Market and am cancelling their credit card.     This company has no idea how to run a business. Order for pickup but turns out item is out of stock in stores for months, even when website says pickup in two days. Cancel and replace order for delivery in 4 days. It's now been 11 days and item shipped from California to Florida, arrived in Florida on the 18th and somehow is back in California on the 21st. Customer service is clueless and rude. Supervisors offer no additional help except the item is in transit. Company took almost 1300$ from me a month ago and I have no items to show for it.     I purchased gift cards on December 6,2022 as a gift for a family member for Christmas. These gift cards were supposed to be emailed by the middle of December. No gift cards were sent. With constant communication on my end with WM, I was promised the gift cards would be emailed and never were. After Christmas, I requested a refund. I was told the gift cards had to be devalued which they were by January 10,2023. On January 12,2023, I spoke to a supervisor who took my credit card information. I was guaranteed a refund within 48 hours. After many phone calls to WM and no communication from them, it is February 20,2023 and still no refund. They say it's been turned over to corporate. Today they say they have no timeframe for my refund. I did look at the reviews prior to purchasing the gift cards, and to my better judgement I went ahead and trusted WM. Do not fall for this scam of a company. If I could, I would not have given this review 1 star. Tip for consumers:Do not buy gift cards online.     I ordered a water filter for my refrigerator. The item came in the correct box however it was the wrong filter in the box. I used there prepaid return ticket. Two weeks later I received the package back with a label saying "Return to Sender" The return address on the return label was ******* Orb Dr., Browerville, MN *******. I googled the address and found that it is a house in a rural area that is actually listed on Realtor.com for sale. Never use them again. Products used:Bought the correct from another vendor.     Been calling for weeks. Wrong tracking number, multiple times on calls with supervisors, keeps telling me same issue that it's "shipped", no one calls the trucking company to get updates. Refuses to give me refund because it's "shipped status" went in fact, it is still sitting lost somewhere! GARBAGE COMPANY! Go buy elsewhere, spend more and get great service and an actual tracking number! Not to mention, the stores have absolutely NOTHING in stock! Everything was out of stock, leaving you to order online and then you run into these weird, stagnant, no activity with shipping issues and VERY RUDE customer service people!     I'm agreeing with everyone else. They advertise free shipping on $49, BUT it's "oversized" it's $10 more. And, not in stock so another $23 to ship. $33 to ship. Customer Service was worthless and contacting the local store it was just sorry, not in stock and they could not request the warehouse to ship to a local store. In fact----this item was not available ANYWHERE in California! She said that when it comes it stock it will be higher priced. Games, games, games. I purchased a large picture from them for $149. When I peeled off the sticker on the protective corner, it had on it that it was $129. So I got screwed out of $20 from the manufacturers price. They up prices, not in stock so $33 shipping and won't request it to be delivered to store for pickup.     I found the most beautiful couch as this store. I was excited and was willing to pay whatever I needed. Calling the store to confirm its arrival as I was told it would be in the day before I called and was told that the new date was 1-2 weeks before arrival. I asked the clerk to confirm which date it would be. I explained that I was going to be having breast cancer surgery and needed a piece of furniture in my home. The clerk then told me that I could go to another store and buy a sofa from another company if I wanted too…I couldn't believe the customer service!     Englewood CO: We were ready to buy a table, a sofa and carpet but wanted to sign up for the card for %20 off.The cashier told us that only the manager knew how to do this process. The manager insisted on checking people out and left this poor cashier to sign us up...who didn't know how to do it. We waited 20 minutes for help.The manager ignored us and then disappeared.     You know my ambivalence in regard to corporate chains. Nevertheless I do like World Market. I have picked up some cool-vintage type pieces for a redo project: Grass rugs, zinc frames, cool sculpted towels as well as some interesting food items such as walnut oil and interesting yet inexpensive wines. It's a fun place in which to browse plus they always have fresh and featured coffees for the customer to enjoy while meandering. Plastic bags are horrible, but theirs are fun. Four stars. ETA: Aww heck -- as I write this, I note that WM has merged or been absorbed by a conglomerate.     Contacted World Market several times regarding my missing order. Submitted 3 tickets and called 4 times with an excessive wait of 30 minutes with no answer. It is impossible to get them to answer emails or phone calls to resolve this issue so ended up filing a complaint with the bank.     One of the most terrible user experiences with online order that I have had. They accepted an on-line order, charged my credit card and deducted reward points for this order. Then just silently cancelled the order, without even trying to offer any substitutions. Their customer service reacted to my complaints with plain mockery like "thank you for kind words about our website". Never made any attempts to make things right by me, never refunded forfeit reward points. Beware of their business practices, avoid ordering from world market online, they just do not deliver.     I love shopping the store in person, but Jesus Christ, don't order from them online. The website will charge your method of payment but then error out while processing your order and advise you to try again. You end up being charged for each attempt and their customer service department is woefully inadequate. I do not believe they actually read through your email and provide generic responses that do not address your issue and it made me want to tear my hair out.     You shop online, you order, you pay, then a week later or more, you get a notice that your order has been cancelled because the item is now out of stock. This happens over and over. They do not keep an accurate inventory. When you write to complain, you get a generic response about your refund but no actual help or explanation.     We placed an order on a Thursday. On Friday they cancelled because they didn't have the quantity they showed online "not my problem", it states on there email 72 hours to get your refund. I have been on hold for 1 week straight for 30 min everyday with no answer. I finally get through to someone 30 min later just to be told that they are just now going to process my request that if I wanted a refund I should have called earlier. Like I didn't do that. Never ever will I buy from them stay away avoid the irritation, now they said please allow 5-10 business days before you see it back on your account so 3 weeks I'm not going to hold my breath.     I ordered 5 items. Four arrived and two months later I'm still waiting for the fifth. I have sent three emails. Called multiple times - no answer and eventually I was cut off. Tried chat - but apparently that isn't operational. Really unbelievable. Most stores are trying harder to stay in business during th pandemic. Apparently World Market is not one of them. Bye bye.     How is this awful company still in business? Are the stores better? Tried for two days to order and could not use the coupon they sent me. First time shopping (I'm a guy) at World. Called, no answer. Left ringing, forgot, came back about 45 min later, still ringing. So googled reviews and this is a major hated retailer by its 'victims'.     Two days of trying to place an order online and three failed phone calls to representatives. World Market clearly on the home page had a promo code for free shipping. I could not place my order because an error in processing kept coming up. The reps said they've been having a problem with that code also and they could not use it. Once I removed the code online the order was processed. I will NOT be buying from World Market again. They lost my business because of the illegal use of a promoted code. False Advertising.     I was super excited to purchase a basket full of clearance holidays decor but couldn't because their system was down. I was assured there keep it for me until the following day. I even called and verified later that afternoon. Upon returning the next day at 10 am only to find they had disregarded my vow and replaced the entire careful of things onto shelves.     I ordered a table that somehow was "damaged by the shipping company" on route to my home. When we called we were told we needed to wait until it was received back before we could get a refund. Each time we called the rep would say "15 days after they receive it, but could take up to 90 days". Called back every 15 days, same bull$#*!. 45 days later we call again and the genius in the phone says the other reps were mistaken, and that the table was JUST returned and now it will take about 5 days for a refund.     My furniture came broken 3 times, they were absolutely terrible with customer service, every time I would get told 1 thing only to be told later by another customer service rep that this information was wrong. Trying to get the broken items shipped back to them was utter hell! Wasted so many days of my life trying to get things resolved. I literally cried on the phone in the end I was so frustrated. They really didn't care. And then after they finally took all the furniture back I got an email a month later saying I needed to return the items or they'd bill me another 1400$.
