I ordered some saddles. Paid for two and received a free pair. The quality of the material was very cheap. Because I loved payless shoes and the quality when the store were opened, I thought the quality would still be the same. I would never buy from them again. Apparently, they changed manufacturers. I hated to see payless close the stores, but please don't continue to give yourself a bad name with your current product. Plus there is no offer for free shipping return. Don't waste your money.
Date of experience: July 14, 2023I remember when Payless was THEE go-to shoe store in any mall or shopping plaza. You got decent quality shoes on a budget, and they lasted many years. NOT TODAY. They went bankrupt a few years back and are now 'revamping' for 2021. But I should have known better when I visited the website for pair of dress shoes. Most of the options were terrible quality, including the house slippers. Like something you'd find in the free bin, at a garage sale.
I ordered a pair of taupe booties (low heel dress boots) in a size 6M and found it strange that there was no invoice or return shipping anywhere in the box. The shoes fit okay, but the heel did not. It easily slipped in out and around the very wide opening which was hugely disappointing as they are aesthetically pleasing, but not great quality. And returns are NOT FREE, but charge up to $7. So if you paid $18 for your shoes, you may as well cough the loss.

Date of experience: September 20, 2021We bought a couple pairs of shoes for my Daughter. We went big on their sizing chart thinking that they would be big and she could grew into them. Well. That sizing chart it wrong. The Shoes are too small. And worse, Payless makes you pay to ship them back for a return. This is an effect 40% refund once you take into the cost of shipping. This is unacceptable customer service. DO NOT BUY SHOES from them. There are so many other stores that offer free returns that Payless is paymore in the long run.
Tip for consumers:If the Shoes don't fit or just don't work, you pay to ship them back. This wipes out any value shopping with them and you are better off using a different online store.

Date of experience: January 18, 2021Size of shoe way off. Customer must pay for returning bad merchandise. Payless does not support customer, but more so supports their shoe vendors, which they won't have if their customer service stays like this.
Date of experience: March 26, 2022I ordered a pair of shoes for the first (and last) time from Payless.com on February 19th. I was not given any shipping options, just some flat rate ($7). Tracking number says Fed Ex which is usually pretty reliable, but I found out today that it SAYS FedEx, but it is really turned over to the US Post office, and even in Feb 2021 mail is still slow... VERY slow and my lousy little pair of shoes, coming from Kentucky to Maryland are now stuck in West Virginia. Just sitting there, for a couple of days already. I could have gone to Kentucky myself and gotten them here quicker. I highly recommend NOT ordering from Payless if you don't have the option of better shipping service. Of course several of their (cough) customer service people tell me it is out of their hands and I should just sit and wait here. That was their answer. NOT very helpful. Just warning you.
Tip for consumers:Beware of the lack of shipping options. It said Fed Ex but was really the post office

It was my understanding a charge is made only at time of shipment.

Date of experience: January 16, 2022Never met a company that has two different styles on one page just different colors item is different than what is stated and you are the one that's at fault. No compensation with free return nothing basically you bought it you're stuck with it. Was told I should've read the description. Why would I read the description if I am looking at the item but wanted colors not black you would assume that both items were the same. So now I'm stuck out of $25. I should've learned the first time when I purchased shoes and they sent me the wrong size they were Wides instead of mediums and now I'm stuck with those also first time shame on you second time shame this will be the last time I purchase anything from Payless.

Date of experience: June 15, 2021Don't buy shoes from this site if want to try them on. Very expensive to return. They don't offer free returns or exchanges. The cost of the return was what I paid for the shoes. There is no customer service line to speak with someone. Not worth buying from a site like this. Many other sites offer free returns or Happy Returns.
Tip for consumers:Don't order from Payless unless you are absolutely sure you will not return the item. We will be donating the shoes to a charity shop.
Products used:We kept one pair of shoes, but the other pair was too narrow and we wanted to return. The cost of the shoes was $20. It was going to cost me $20. to mail it back. Not worth returning. No customer services options to even speak with someone. Other sites have "Happy Returns" or a flat fee return. We will not be ordering from Payless again.

Date of experience: June 24, 2021I love Payless Shoes. I was SAD when they closed their stores. I found out that they are still selling online. The first time I ordered, I was VERY PLEASED. I got my new order today and I am DISAPPOINTED. I ordered four pairs of shoes. Clearly they have not been worn but they are dusty, the quality is SUBPAR. The stitching is incomplete, the fabric is not completed, I see the foam. $95.00 is a lot of money to spend on anything. I am returning them.
I did not receive a return label nor a receipt.
Tip for consumers:This Company should tell the consumer that the quality is no longer the same.

Date of experience: March 30, 2019I ordered 3 pairs of boots and I received rue21 CLOTHES, since when Payless is associated with rue21. I'm so upset, now if they decide to say I got my boots, I'm out of over $50 and stuck with clothing that don't even fit me, and THEY ARE UGLY. I'm livid!

It's budget friendly and lots of different styles. On the down side, they don't have my size very often. I wear
Lady's 5, or youth girl size 3! But in the goid side you can order it from the store and puck them up!
Date of experience: October 9, 2017I have bought 12 pairs of shoes from payless so far and all shoes have been really nice, all thru to size (except one) and no scuffs or dents any were. They may not be designer brand with logo and all but they sure are really worth the money spent.
Date of experience: December 21, 2014I was a regular online payless buyer, but the last time they completely messed up my order. I got an email form customer service that my order was cancelled, so I placed a fresh order. A few days later they shipped my original order and my new order both. I was really pissed off as it I had ordered the same stuff again.
I wrote to customer service about it and no acknowledgement or anything of any sort...
Very very poor coordination among themselves and poor customer has to pay the price

However, I have yet to receive a reply from anyone at Customer Service.
This company is very poorly run by W. Paul Jones. Does he even care about customers?

Is out of business in chapter 11 before chapter 7 bankruptcy. I. e. Tried to order 2 pair of boots online, they showed 8 styles but all 8 where OUT OF STOCK, in all sizes.

Approx $40.00 purchase and to send back I have to pay $14.00. Ridiculous. Closet store Is an hour away.
Tip for consumers:Triple check the sizing and be prepared to pay for a return. Extremely disappointed!!! Would not recommend.

Date of experience: April 2, 2022They will not treat Debit Card purchases as cash. They will only do returns on the card you used. This makes sense for CREDIT CARD purchases but every other company I have ever known in my entire life will give you cash back on DEBIT card purchases. It then takes 2 weeks for the money to be credited to your debit card or bank account. This policy is absolutely ridiculous and it takes advantage of customers. I will never shop at Payless Shoes again.

No where did they announce this? This is stealing. They deserve to go out of business. Don't waste your money on their products.
Date of experience: March 16, 2019I've worn shoes from Payless pretty much since I was a young kid. I'd even got a few pairs of shoes for my kids over the years. I was so disappointed when the stores closed. However, I was thrilled when I found out a while back that I could order online. That excitement was short lived though. I wear between a 9.5-10, depending on the brand. I went with a size 10 when I placed my tennis shoe order. The price was so good, I ordered 4 pairs of shoes. Big mistake! One (likely 2) of the pairs are extremely painful to wear. The size is right but comfort is non-existent. It'd be more comfortable to wear wood on my feet. I reached out to customer service via email to explain things & to request a prepaid return label. I also explained that I'm disabled & that stable, comfortable shoes is extremely important, in hopes of avoiding a pair flare up & falls & that these shoes are just too painful to wear. I let them know that I wanted to return 2 of the 4 pairs I'd ordered & that I'd worn one pair (blue) twice & the gray pair was still in the box. I received a response this afternoon that I'm responsible for paying for return shipping because they only pay for it when the item is damaged or incorrect. The representative implied it was an issue with the size but I'd included in my original email that it was a quality/comfort issue. This is very disappointing. I sent another email, but from what I'm finding out online, I doubt if they'll change their mind on sending a prepaid return label. It's not worth it to return them. I'll just donate the shoes & won't shop with Payless anymore. I won't give anymore of my business to an establishment that doesn't stand behind their products. They won't be around long with poor business practices like this.

Date of experience: December 9, 2021To be honest, i've been wearing payless shoes since i was a kid and had no bad experiences. Now that i live in the Caribbean and there are few Payless locations and not a wide variety, I opted to shop online. Funny enough, the site does not accept non U.S. paypal/non U.S. issued credit cards. So my next option was to buy a store merchandise credit from eBay, and as such I would be able to check out. I was contemplating between two sizes and by the next morning all the prices changed and my store credit was not sufficient to cover my order. Calling customer service is a complete and total waste, the rep had the audacity to tell me that he just got into work and was unsure of the promotions they were having and he would not be able to honor the prices from the day before for me. Additionally, I've heard that if you order multiple pairs, they come in separate orders depending on where they are available from. WHY? Truly appalling. Especially for customers who live outside of the U.S. I just don't see what the point of the website is to be very honest.

Not user friendly at all, does not tell you when the order actually goes through so hitting enter more the once, charges your Credit Card multiple times. Then when you call customer service, they are not help at all and only tell you that the holds will last for 4 days and to call back if all the charges hit. REALLY? What scam they have going - even though their site tells you to call immediately to cancel or adjust the order once its placed if you need to change or cancel, they DO NOT HONOR or HELP you. WORST SITE EVER and 1 star isn't even worth it for this online site
